Spectrum officers have spent the past week getting acquainted with their new roles in North Georgia College & State University Spectrum Art Club. We kicked off our Monday night meeting at the library with a list of goals for the coming semester. Our job as the NGCSU Art Club is to create a social environment for not only art students but also those who love art. Our goal is to enhance your education through workshops and fieldtrips. It is also our duty to give students an opportunity to sell and show their artwork through our blog and through Dahlonega’s downtown festivals.
Here’s the highlights—
Part of our job is to make your education more explosive. We are planning a couple workshops including guest speaker Aaron Skinner on graphic design and a stretch your own canvas demo. It could be a long shot, but we’re also trying to arrange a glass blowing demonstration. We are planning at least two field trips: one to the High Museum of Art and one to be determined.
We plan on changing our meeting times to make the club more accessible to students who may be commuting. We will offer meetings on Tuesdays during the meeting hour and meetings on Wednesdays, most likely, in the evening.
Our meeting went incredibly well and on our to-do list for August is finalizing plans for Gold Rush, Dahlonega’s yearly festival in which we will be able to sell our artwork. We will also be finalizing our details on our Halloween party and our Jackson Pollock Mixer. We will also be planning on themes for a Spectrum exhibition.
All in all, we have such a great team. They are passionate about art and about making Spectrum great. We’ve got quite a semester ahead of us!
Please don’t hesitate to contact me with questions. Feedback is more than appreciated!
